In humid workshops, food plants and near water, electrical cabinets often "sweat". Droplets on terminals cause short circuits, false trips and corrosion. A cabinet air conditioner must control moisture, not just temperature.
1. Where condensation comes from
Air holds water vapour; when cooled below its dew point the vapour condenses. In a split AC that blows cool outside air into the cabinet, condensation is actually made worse.
2. Why cabinet AC units condense less
- Closed-loop cooling, isolated air: cabinet air is cooled only at the evaporator, no outside humid air enters;
- IP55 sealed enclosure: humid ambient air cannot get in;
- Anti-condensation heater (option): keeps the evaporator surface above dew point in cold, humid duty;
- Setpoint above dew point: set the target above the ambient dew point to avoid condensation by design.
3. Design measures
| Condition | Risk | HCK measure |
|---|---|---|
| Humid / rainy season | Wall condensation | Closed-loop + setpoint above dew point |
| Cold storage | Evaporator sweat | Anti-condensation heater + low-temp start |
| Coastal salt mist | Corrosion + condensation | C5 coating + closed-loop IP55 |
| Food / washdown | Spray + humidity | IP55 + drain option |
4. Maintenance checklist
- Setpoint at or above local dew point;
- Door gaskets intact, no humid air leaks;
- Clean coils regularly to keep surface temperature up;
- Enable anti-condensation heater in high humidity.
