Cabinet Air Conditioner for PV Inverter Cabinets

Thermal Challenges in PV Inverter Cabinets

Central PV inverters dissipate significant heat from IGBT modules, DC-link capacitors and reactors—typically 2%–3% of rated power. In sealed cabinets summer temperatures exceed 60°C, far above the allowable junction temperature, so active cooling is required.

Selection Criteria

Required cooling capacity is estimated from total internal heat loss plus envelope gain, with a 20% margin. Outdoor units need IP54 protection and C3+ anti-corrosion; the compressor must support high ambient operation (condensing temperature up to 60°C).

FAQ

Why not just use a fan for inverter cabinets?

The cabinet is sealed against dust and moisture; outside humid air causes corrosion and condensation. A cabinet AC keeps an internal closed loop at 35–45°C.

How to estimate required capacity?

Take total loss P_loss (~2%–3% of rated power) plus envelope gain, then multiply by 1.2 for margin.
