Difference in Principle
A cabinet AC actively moves heat out via a refrigeration cycle and can cool below ambient. An air-to-air heat exchanger only transfers sensible heat between air streams, bringing the cabinet close to—but not below—ambient, with no cooling.
Key Comparison
| Aspect | Cabinet AC | Air-Air HX |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling | Below ambient | Near ambient |
| Energy | High (compressor) | Low (fans only) |
| Protection | IP54 loop | Dual isolated ducts |
| Dehumidify | Yes | No |
Selection
- Must cool below ambient or need dehumidification → cabinet AC
- Large ΔT, energy first, low humidity → air-air HX
- High density: run both in parallel redundancy
