N+1 Redundancy Design for Prefab Cabin AC

N+1 Principle

Deploy N working units plus one hot standby; if any single unit fails, the remaining fleet still meets total load, preventing cabin overheating. Used where downtime is unacceptable.

Capacity Sizing

With unit capacity Q_unit, N = ceil(Q_total / Q_unit), total N+1 units. Example: 30 kW load, 10 kW/unit → N=3, configure 4 units.

FAQ

How does N+1 differ from 2N?

N+1 backs up a single unit at moderate cost; 2N doubles the system so it survives total loss of one side, used in critical data centers at higher cost.

Why rotate primary/standby?

Scheduled rotation balances run hours and wear across units, avoids long idle aging of one, extends life and eases planned maintenance.
